Profile: Ngô Bảo Châu was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. He is the Francis and Rose Yuen Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago and the founder and Scientific Director of the Vietnamese Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) in Hanoi.

In 2010, he was awarded the Fields Medal. He is also an Honorary Member of the London Mathematical Society (since 2021), a Foreign Member of the Académie des Sciences de Paris (since 2016), and a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (since 2012).
Earlier in his career, Prof. Ngô held appointments at the Institute of Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ and the Université Paris-Sud. He received his PhD at the Université Paris-Sud and his BS at the École Normale Supérieure, Université Pierre et Marie Curie.
Prof. Ngô is best known for his proof of the Fundamental Lemma in the theory of automorphic forms, a conjecture proposed by Robert Langlands and Diana Shelstad, which played a crucial role in advancing the Langlands program.
